Can one put a price on friendship, love or morals? Do people who have more money and possessions have more love, passion, sorrow or moral worth? How much would you pay for a bottle of wine, or bespoke chairs? PRICE TAG puts economics and social structure back on the table. It explores the world through the rigid and artifice of possessions – changing the relationship structure of the group based on net worth.

Anything by The Last Great Hunt is always amazing, but PRICE TAG takes everything to a whole new level. Jeffrey Jay Fowler‘s signature fast-paced artificial, forced polite tone shines through as a dinner party unfolds – a dinner party between friends who bridge the gap of their monetary differences through shrill laughter and showing off. The incomparable Jo Morris shines as the haughty and over-the-top Victoria, host of the dinner party. Her husband, Nick Maclaine and their guests, Gita Bezard and Mararo Wangai are equally as hilarious as they react to Victoria’s fast-paced motormouth. The set is transparent – there are clear chairs, empty clear champagne bottles and flutes, that the wealth of the hosts can project their wealth onto.

Of course, nothing is as it seems, and a breakdown soon rears its ugly head. A shift of tone and character and we see each scenario play itself out, each one getting more and more ridiculous. The value of money and the discrepancy between classes becomes increased as the characters start to make accusations of competency, validate their love and even their ability to parent in a bid to appear on top. Love and loyalties are questioned and they find themselves asking the big question: what is money?

Is the price of the ticket worth an hour of art? Yes. PRICE TAG questions the very fabric of society and the role that money plays in it.
