 The Truffle Toastie Competition

Madame Truffles is pleased to announce that this years’ Truffle Toastie Toast-off will be bigger and tastier this year!  Chefs from 5 of Melbourne’s top cafes Kettle Black, St Ali,  Auction RoomsStagerLee’s, Chez Dre and new entry and host, The Premises will head over to the inner west to battle it out over their toastie presses. These cafes have pioneered a new standard of food quality in Melbourne redefining what people can expect from a cafe.

Last year, Jesse McTavish from Kettle Black took out the Truffy for his Truffle Ice Cream Toastie. Will he be able to hold onto this title for 2016?

The rules are simple:  Each chef will be given 15g of fresh black truffle from MadameTruffles, bread from Chirico (we can update this?) & one type of cheese (chef’s choice), to create the best truffle toastie.  Each chef can choose up to 4 more ingredients to add to their toastie, if they wish. They must NOT use truffle oil.

We are thrilled to announce that Hilary McNevin, food writer, radio presenter and author will be there judge the competition, along with Michelin star chef Ashley Davis and Alice in Frames.

It promises to be even more fun than last year!

The winner will receive the Madame Truffles Truffle Toastie Trophy; the Truffy.  The winning cafe can hold onto the Truffy until the next championship.

All 5 toasties will be also available to purchase at the event so people can judge for themselves.

Details:

Where: The Premises Café, Kensington, Melbourne

When: Sunday 10 July.

Time: Competition starts at 1pm.  Truffle toasties will be available to purchase from 9am.

During many years as an Early Childhood Teacher and an Educator conducting Health Programs in Primary Schools, my interest in healthy foods and healthy living evolved. These days I love creating delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes, particularly if such meals and recipes can be shared with others. Philosophy classes have further reinforced my constant fascination with the seemingly mundane and occasionally quirky little things in life, with quite a few decades of experience to draw upon! I have always had a passion for writing and my previous career ensured plenty of practice. Subsequently this interest has inspired me to share my culinary adventures with the Australia Times Gourmet Magazine. Meanwhile my thoughts on all manner of topics head in the direction of The Australia Times Life and Love Magazine.
