Thirty five Melbourne and Richmond footballers lost their young lives in WW1.
To honour these fine sportsmen, their families, descendants and friends, key members of both clubs are gathering at Caulfield RSL, 4 St Georges Road on Tuesday April 21 ahead of their inaugural Anzac Eve clash at the MCG.
“We are looking forward to paying our respects with the Richmond Football Club on Anzac Eve. This will be an important night for us to honour not only those who played for and served the Clubs, but everyone who served our country,” Melbourne chairman Glen Bartlett said.
“Both Richmond and Melbourne have significant links into military conflict and we look forward to paying tribute on Anzac Eve to all the men and women who served this country,” Richmond president Peggy O’Neal continued.
Everyone is welcome to attend and meet Melbourne’s Jack Watts and former champions Ron Barassi, John Lord, Russell Robertson and Dale Weightman. These players will be joining one hundred Caulfield RSL ex-service personnel for lunch in ‘Back to Gallipoli’ at 4 St Georges Road, Elsternwick.
